Twelve years of practicing in Wake County District Court as a general practitioner has uniquely prepared me to serve as a District Court Judge.  As the litigator in a general practice law firm my experience has prepared me in numerous areas of the law including criminal, child custody, child support and marital property distribution as well as abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence and civil litigation.

In fact, since 1996, I have had the privilege of trying contested matters in every District Courtroom in
Wake County.  It is that experience and preparation that will allow me, if elected, to understand the issues and the law involved regardless of whether the case involves issues raised in a divorce, a juvenile that has broken the law and is rebelling from his parents, upholding the law in our criminal justice system or weighing the facts and applying the law fairly between two citizens caught in a dispute.

I am familiar with how the different courtrooms operate and, with many of the issues raised in the different areas of law and my independent knowledge of the law will mean that in every case I can be an independent arbiter, weighing the arguments of both parties and counsel with equal respect for both sides.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

It is a judge’s role to apply the law as it exists to the facts of each case in order that justice might be done.  Often the judge must first determine what the law is.  When two sides in a case before the Court cannot agree on how the law should apply or exactly what law applies or even what the law is, the judge must carefully consider the laws as they have been written by the legislature or Congress or as it has been discovered through our heritage of the Common Law.  I believe that

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE JUDICIARY

One of the most important acts of government is to insure that conflicts can be settled civilly and without violence.  The second most important act of a government is to punish the evildoer.  In Exodus, Moses sought to govern the people of Israel by sitting as judge to decide their disputes.  But his father-in-law noticed that this job was too big for Moses alone and advised him to appoint judges over the people in groups of tens, fifties, hundreds and thousands.  Thus we have the first creation of a judicial system in the Judeo-Christian heritage.  Historians also believe that . . .

disposes, directs, and governs all things." -
